American Tech Supply has in stock a complete Line of Innerduct accesories including Plastic Couplings, Plastic Couplers, Aluminum Couplers, External Couplers, and External Innerduct Couplers. The right hand/left hand reverse thread aluminum couplings are our most economical and versatile coupling for polyethylene innerduct. The couplings work equally well for smooth wall, corrugated, or ribbed type innerduct, and are made in all sizes of SDR and SIDR rated innerducts from 3/4" to 6". Thread-on couplings can be installed by hand or with one of manual or hydraulic powered coupling presses. The sharp buttress type threads withstand high pulling loads that meet or exceed the Bellcore tensile standard of 1000 lbs.

Stepped Couplers

Cabletec's stepped couplings are a variation of our external reverse threaded aluminum coupling described on the previous page and are used to connect two different sizes of innerduct. The buttress thread form, pull out strength, and overall design of the stepped couplings is the same as external thread-on couplings. The couplings can be made to fit any two sizes or types of HDPE specifies by the customer.

PE- PVC Transition Couplers

The top left illustration shows how the transition coupling would be connected to a PVC pipe or sweep. The lower illustration shows an application where the coupling is fitted with a short PVC or metal electrical nipple to allow polyethylene conduit to be installed through a bulkhead of some type of box enclosure. Metal conduit pipe and fittings can also be used with the transition couplings.

Cabletec's PE-PVC Transition couplings were designed as a simple economical solution to the problem of connecting polyethylene duct to standard IPS metal or PVC pipe or fittings. The couplings are air/water tight to 180 lbs. psi, have high pullout strength and easily handle the leverage stresses exerted from connecting large radius sweeps and full-length pipe sections. The design has regular right hand threads on the polyethylene end of the coupling. The other end of the coupling is machined with regular IPS female pipe threads to accept a make to female PVC pipe adaptor. The male end of the adaptor is screwed into the coupling and the PVC pipe or sweep is glued into the female end of the adaptor.

Tapered Universal Couplers

Cabletec's Universal Coupling can used as a general purpose coupling, but they have particular applications in situations where the conduit system is constructed with a variety of different types or sizes of innerduct. The couplings are made like our standard reverse thread couplings except the amount of taper is increased. For a given size our universal couplings are about 1" longer than standard couplings. The additional length allows enough taper to be machined into the couplings to accommodate a wide variation in the outside diameter of the duct while still having enough thread engagement to give the couplings good pullout strength. The four size of couplings in this series will connect the whole range of SDR and SIDR innerduct from 1" to 2". The couplings work equally well with corrugated, ribbed, or smooth-wall conduit. Cabletec® Tapered Universal Couplings are widely used in repair work and are a practical, inexpensive way of reducing inventory cost and are sized as follows:

External Thread-On Couplers

The right hand/left hand reverse thread aluminum couplings are our most economical and versatile coupling for polyethylene innerduct. The couplings work equally well for smooth wall, corrugated, or ribbed type innerduct, and are made in all sizes of SDR and SIDR rated innerducts from 3/4" to 6". Thread-on couplings can be installed by hand or with one of Cabletec's manual or hydraulic powered coupling presses. The sharp buttress type threads withstand high pulling loads that meet or exceed the Bellcore tensile standard of 1000 lbs.

These coupling are machined with one degree of taper and have a long chamfered lead-in for straight, easy starting. The couplings incorporate a wide, six pitch thread angle which greatly reduces the number of revolutions necessary to install the couplings. These versatile couplings can be used in manholes, direct bury, aerial, or any application except where an air or water tight connection is required.

Barbed Ring Compression Couplers

This innovative coupling design combines the advantages of low cost, reliability, and a fast time saving method of installation. Each of the barbed rings functions as a separate full circumference seal providing double protection against air passing through the connection. The sharp precision cut barbs bite into the body of the duct creating a connection having both high internal and external sealing capability and exceptional pull out strength. Sealing and tensile efficiency of the couplings actually improves as internal air pressure in the duct increases during the cable placement operation. These coupling are also made for every size of SDR and SIDR innerduct.

Being a compression type fitting, the coupling must be pushed onto the innerduct under a compression load sufficient to cause the barbs to bite into the duct which requires the use of one of Cabletec's hydraulic or mechanical coupling presses. A mechanically assisted installation procedure insures each coupling is installed properly, thereby, increasing the overall reliability of every connection.

Barbed Ring Air- Tight Couplers

This series of aluminum air tight couplings incorporates the same reliable, full circumference seal used in our barbed ring compression couplings. But unlike other one piece plastic or aluminum compression couplings that have to be installed with some type of coupling press, Cabletec's multiple lead barbed ring coupling can be installed like any ordinary reverse thread coupling.

Instead of a coupling press, a special wide pitch, fast traveling thread is used to force the innerduct over the barbed ring seal. From a user's standpoint, the coupling would be installed exactly like any common reverse thread coupling except the installation time is shortened by as much as 75% over conventional couplings. Due to the wide pitch angle of the multiple lead thread, only 5 complete turns are required to install these couplings compared to 12 to 15 turns for conventional couplings. Another important feature of the coupling is that the outside diameters are small enough to allow these couplings to be pulled into primary ducts or through plow chutes.

These threaded couplings permit tensil loading as high as conventional reverse couplings and provide a positive reliable seal up to 280 lbs. psi. Being a machined product, these couplings can be sized for the exact outside diameter of any innerduct. The amount of interference designed into the fit of the coupling will accommodate the .012-.015 manufacturing tolerances allowed in the outside diameter of the innerduct.

Eliminating the cost of special tools, combined with a faster installation make the in-place cost of these couplings as economical as any compression type air-tight coupling.

This innovative series of thread less couplings for corrugated innerduct was designed to be a lower cost alternative to metal couplers and can be used in the same type of applications. Installation time is greatly reduced over any type of thread-on couplings. The installation consists simply of sliding an outer sleeve over the internal component which has ribs which match the corrugation pattern of the innerduct. The locks, which hold the two sleeves together, can be reopened to allow access to the cable. The coupling is made of injection molded HDPE and will handle pullout loads to 600 lbs. The couplings are molded in 1' and 1 ¼" sizes to fit the corrugated duct of most major manufacturers including Arnco, Duraline, Carlon, Driscopipe, Ohio Pipe, and Endot.

This is the design that has become the industry standard for tapered internal couplings for corrugated innerduct. The tapered body of the coupling expands the duct wall sufficiently to maintain the full inside diameter of the conduit. The thin leading edge of the coupling will not interfere with pulling eyes or blowing devices. These couplings make a fast, economical connection in applications where a pull strength connection is not required. Four stock sizes fit all nominal sized 1", 1 ¼", 1 3/8" and 1 ½" corrugated innerduct. These couplings are also available in a stepped version for joining two different sizes of innerduct in the same manner as our stepped aluminum couplings.

This series of reusable air-tight molded couplings was introduced specifically to replace expensive two piece removable metal couplings. The couplings are injection molded of a UV protected glass fiver reinforced nylon, and underground applications with today's blown fiber technology. The couplings are reusable, removable, lightweight, seal completely to 200 lbs. psi.. The coupling body, rubber gasket and stainless steel fasteners are essentially impervious to corrosion. No special tools are required to install the couplings except a battery powered or hand held nut driver. The stainless steel fasteners are prethreaded onto the upper half of the coupling to save installation time. The gasketed feature also allows the couplings to handle a .020-.030 variation in the outside diameter of the innerduct. Being a molded product, athe cost of these couplings is less than 50% of other two piece machined or cast aluminum removable couplings. The part weight of a Cabletec® 1" plastic coupling is only 4 0z. compared to 2 lbs. For a removable 1" aluminum coupler which greatly reduces the shipping/handling expense for the end user. Considering the combined benefits of lower initial cost, versatility and reusability makes this series of Cabletec® couplings an ideal solution to a wide range of coupling applications. The large size range of innerduct these two piece plastic couplings will safely handle makes them a legitimate universal coupling without compromising the dealing and pullout performance needed for pneumatic cable placement. The size range of the five couplings currently manufactured is shown in the table below:

As a result of new fiber placement methods and technology, couplings for HDPE innerduct have become an increasingly important component in building today's vast fiberoptic networks. This website details Cabletec's current line of machined and molded couplings. Each of the products represents a user-tested solution to some problem related to connecting innerduct faster, easier and better.

We believe our current line and inventory of standard and specialty couplings is the largest, most carefully engineered, and most competitively priced of any domestic manufacturer. We manufacture couplings in a size range form ¾" to 6" in a wide variety of materials including aluminum, polyethylene, PVC and engineered type plastics. Our production and stocking program is tailored to provide next day delivery on most products.

Our computerized controlled threading equipment that our manufacturer uses gives us the flexibility to produce short runs or specialty couplings with the same efficiency as our standard products. The tempered 6061-T6 tube that we use for our aluminum couplings is extruded from custom dies to a machine-ready size. This eliminates waste of raw material, increases production output and allows us to maintain coupling walls that won't crush or deform.

In designing a coupling, we not only consider how easy it will start to thread an how much it will hold, but what its true in-place cost will be to the end user. The wide pitch thread we use in our reverse thread couplings, for example, allows the couplings to be threaded on with half the rotations in half the time as some competitive couplings. Design features like these save time and money at every connection.
