Description
TC3210R/S Media Converter
Featuring Bandwidth Control and Management, the Model TC3220 10/100M 2-port Switching/Bridging Fiber Optic Ethernet Media Converter converts or connects 10/100Base-TX (UTP) networks to 100Base-FX (Fiber Optic) networks.
Bandwidth Control gives users, especially data service providers, the ability to control or limit bandwidth. Data rates for Rate Control can be set at 32kbps increments, up to 100M. It can be managed through any Web Browser, Telnet or Serial Console. Password protection is provided.
The TC3220 includes a built-in switch that enables distances up to 100km without additional hardware (e.g. Switch or Router). It provides 10/100Mbps Auto-Negotiation and automatically adapts to full or half-duplex mode. Transparent to the network, it operates effectively even during high-demand traffic loads.
Standard temperature range is -10°C to 50°C. The optional high temperature version provides a range of -20°C to 70°C. A hardened temperature version is also available and provides a range of -40°C to 80°C which exceeds NEMA and CALTRANs specifications.
The TC3220 supports single mode distances up to 100 km (1550nm laser) and works with all types and sizes of fiber optic cable. A two-way "one fiber" single mode version is available. Fiber optic connectors are ST, FC or SC. The UTP connector is RJ-45 Female.
Dry contact alarms are provided for connection to remote network management systems. A local loopback feature, eight LED indicators and an Uplink/Downlink slide switch are provided on the front panel to assist with installation and troubleshooting.
Standard power is 12VDC and includes built-in redundancy. Optional power sources include 24VDC, -48VDC, 125VDC or 115/230VAC with an with an external power cube. The TC3220S is the standalone/wallmount unit. The TC3220R rackmount version fits into the TCRM192 or TCRM196 19" rackmount card cages.

Fiber Optic Media Converters are devices that simply receive data signals from one media, convert and transmit them to another other media. For example, media converters can convert signals transmitted on a copper cable to signals that run on fiber. Since Media Converters function as physical layer networking devices, they remain completely transparent to other networking devices and any upper-level protocol.Media Converters can function in either half-duplex or full duplex mode. Full duplex Ethernet over UTP runs at 20 or 200Mbps, while half-duplex Ethernet over UTP runs at either 10 or 100 Mbps. Full duplex Ethernet is especially valuable in linking two switches or connecting a switch to a file server. No adjustments are necessary when using either mode. A Media Converter will automatically sense which mode is in operation.

Unmanaged Media Converters
Signamax Connectivity Systems’ Switching Media Converters with Link Fault Signaling (LFS) provide the means for an SNMP-Managed switch to recognize a failure on a fiber channel or twisted-pair connection, enabling the switch to automatically route to a backup path if the connected switch is equipped with Spanning Tree Algorithm. This intelligence maximizes the power of managed switches, and enables fail-safe design solutions for complex networks. These converters also extend the maximum singlemode fiber distance, spanning over 46 miles with the 065-1120XLD model.
The built-in 10/100 switch enables the fiber cable connection to operate at 100 Mbps connected to either a 10BaseT or a 100BaseTX network, while remaining completely 100BaseFX standard-compliant. Fiber connection can also operate in full duplex mode whether the RJ-45 port is connected to a full duplex switch or a half duplex hub, with the built-in switch providing the network segmentation that permits the maximum fiber distance. Each Media Converter provides a 10/100BaseT/TX auto-negotiating RJ-45 twisted-pair connector port featuring store-and-forward switching architecture. Auto-MDIX capability on the twisted-pair port allows for convenient connections.
