support. There are three different sizes of ICS that make up the current Norstar
product line:
(1) Mini 3x8 system, supports up to 3-incoming lines and 8-stations.
(2)Compact ICS system, designed for small businesses, and is scalable up to a
maximum of 8-incoming lines and 24-stations.
(3) Modular ICS system, designed for larger, growing businesses. This system platform
is scalable by adding expansion modules to support up to 272-ports, which is a
combination of incoming lines and stations. The largest system Option Telecom
will support is a Modular ICS with 150-telephone sets.
In
addition, there are a couple of older platforms that we support: the Modular M8x24
systems (discontinued in favor of the Modular ICS line), and the small 6x16 systems,
which were replaced by the Compact ICS line. These two platforms are considered
Legacy products, and are only available refurbished. The success of the Norstar
line is primarily attributed to their reliability, functionality, and ease of
use. In fact, they are arguably the most reliable system produced, with an extremely
low Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) rate. Nortel's documented MTBF for the system,

Norstar Features
The
ATA allows the integration of analog devices to the digital Norstar system, i.e.
fax machines, modems, cordless phones, etc. The ATA requires its own power supply.
Caller
ID Compact
The
Caller ID unit allows the visual indication of incoming telephone numbers. The
information is displayed directly on the telephone set LCD. You must first order
Caller ID capbility from your local telephone service provider. The Compact Unit
works only for the Norstar 4x8 and 6x16 KSU's.
Caller
ID Module
The
Caller ID unit allows the visual indication of incoming telephone numbers. The

Module is used only on the modular Norstar systems, such as the Compact ICS and

Remote
Access Device
This
device, also called RAD, allows systen changes and programming to occur remotely
via computer terminal. This unit is used in conjunciton with Norstar Management
Software. No other modem can be used to perform these functions. The RAD contains
a 2400 bos modem, and can transfer data on-site up to 9.6 kbs via the RS-232 interface.
Station
Message Detail Recording
This
device, also called SMDR, is used for recording calls in and out of the Norstar
system. There are several variations of SMDR units, so please consider your application
before selecting a unit.
Door
Phone
You
can talk directly with visitors using integrated technology. Even open a locked
door right from your Norstar telephone. When a visitor presses the Call button
on your Doorphone, the Norstar system rings the designated phone or phones in
your office. Your Norstar telephone displays which Doorphone is calling. And with
the optional Door Opening Controller (DOC), any Norstar telephone can control
a latch on a door or a gate. Simply press the softkey below OPEN in your LCD Window.
And the door opens. The Norstar Doorphone, available in brass or stainless steel
faceplates, is a snap to install.
