RC552-FE/GE
Demarcation Media Converter with IEEE802.3ah Standard OAM
RC552 adds a new product line into the existing portfolio. It has been implemented with the following basic OAM functions using special Ethernet frames, OAMPDUs, for communication between OAM entities in the network.
OAM Discovery: Identification of other OAM-capable devices and their capabilities. This function will be used by RC552 media converter to find out if the other device at the other end of the link is OAM-capable. And also, it will negotiate OAM capabilities that are implemented by both of devices.
Link fault indication: Reporting local link fault, such as loss of Signal Detection, to remote devices. RC552 will report receiving-bound link failures to the device at the other end of link.
Link monitoring and signaling: Reporting local faults and failures, including Dying Gasp due to power failure, and the occurrence of a critical event due to abnormal voltage or temperature.
MIB variable retrieval: OAM provides read-only MAC layer access to IEEE802.3 CMIP MIB variables. RC552 is also capable of requesting remote device MIB variables and answer request of MIB variable from remote device. This will help carrier and network administrator to easily derive network statistics such as Number of frames transmitted, Number of frames received, and Number of frames received with error, etc.
Remote loopback: An OAM entity can place its peer in loopback mode to verify link quality during installation and troubleshooting. RC552 can either control its peer to loopback the link or perform OAM loopback instruction from its peer. Raisecom has extended this function by implementing MAC address exchange and loopback frame forwarding in favor of troubleshooting. OAM loopback coordinator will forward Ethernet frames back to loopback originator by exchanging the MAC address in frame head, and originator will continue to forward loopback frames back to their source.
RC552 is only part of Raisecom EFM OAM schedule. Together with ISCOM2828F Switch, they constitute a complete access solution that provides Ethernet access and switching at the edge of MPLS network core with end-to-end management. Since fiber Switch directly connects to media converters, there is no need for fiber-to-copper conversion at the Central Office, greatly reducing CAPEX and OPEX for carriers. |
