MRV Products
Positioned as a midrange CWDM solution, the Fiber DriverT Modular
CWDM system brings an unprecedented level of flexibility and scalability
to metro and intracity district networks, and campus and enterprise
networks. By separating the active data channel cards from the passive
Mux/Demux unit, the modular system enables customers to mix and
match the protocols they want, and to deploy their WDM solution
one data channel at a time.
For more than a decade, MRV Communications
has brought to market innovative optical data communication solutions
that enable more and greater services to be carried over the world's
growing fiber infrastructure. Today, its family of WDM solutions
represents the latest evolution of fiber optimization. With hundreds
of network installations worldwide, MRV is a proven leader in WDM
technology.
At the heart of the Modular CWDM system is the Fiber Driver CWDM
Passive Mux/Demux module. Protocol independent and requiring no
power, its operation remains transparent to both the network and
the end user.
The supported wavelengths of the CWDM Passive Mux/Demux modules
fall within the ITU-T G.694.2 (2002) standard of 1470 nm to 1610
nm with 20 nm spacing. An optional 1310 nm service channel is available.
The device is available in 4-channel and 8-channel configurations,
dual and single fiber.
The Fiber Driver Modular CWDM system offers two types of data channel
cards: the Multi-Rate Transponder and the SFP-to-SFP Media Module.
Configured with CWDM-specific SFP (Small Form Factor Pluggable)
optical transceivers, and connected externally to the Mux/Demux
via optical jumper cables, the channel cards generate and maintain
the active data connections.
Deployed along a WDM trunk at customer service points using MRV
Communications' passive OADM technology, the Multi-Rate Transponder
and SFP-to-SFP Media Module can also be used to create a sophisticated
Add/Drop topology.
The Multi-Rate Transponder performs full clock and data recovery
(3R) per channel at any user selected data rate from 65 Mbps to
2.7 Gbps (65 MHz to 2.7 GHz). By comparison, the SFP-to-SFP Media
Module is data rate transparent and works automatically with any
data rate from 100 Mbps to 2.7 Gbps (100 MHz to 2.4 GHz) while performing
2R functions.
Built into every CWDM Modular system is extensive In-Band and Out-of-Band
management capabilities, including full support of SFP digital diagnostics
as per SFF-8472. Management provides real-time access to information
such as transceiver type (protocol, range, vendor, etc.), operating
temperature, TX/RX optical power, power supply status, and transceiver
supply voltage. Management also provides a means for generating
management alerts and warnings when system parameters fall outside
of their normal operating range.
